Maré

Gold for the girl who never takes it off.

Brand Identity GuidelinesVolume One · The Golden Coast · 2026

01

The brand

Maré means "tide" in Portuguese. It's everyday gold jewellery inspired by the coast Ariana grew up on. Waterproof, tarnish-resistant, and priced to actually live in ($39–47). Not a fine-jewellery house and not pretending to be one: this is real-gold-look pieces for the girl who wears gold to the beach and never takes it off, built founder-first and TikTok-first.

I.

Made to be worn

Waterproof stainless and water-resistant brass, plated in gold. Gold you put on and forget, through salt, sun, and showers.

II.

Ariana & Portuguese

Created by Ariana and inspired by the Portuguese coast. The person, the feeling, and the place are part of the brand: intentional, distinct, and recognizable.

III.

Honest & accessible

Real gold look at an everyday price. We say exactly what each piece is: plated, never "solid", because trust is what makes a $45 brand feel worth it.

02

Wordmark

The wordmark is Maré set in Fraunces. Keep the é accent always; it's part of the name and the Portuguese origin. Let it breathe.

Clear space. Keep space equal to the height of the M on all sides. Never crowd it with type or imagery.
Don't stretch, outline, rotate, add a drop shadow, or recolour outside the palette.
The accent stays. Always "Maré," never "Mare." The é carries the meaning and the origin.
One handle everywhere. Pick one social handle and match it across platforms for recall.

Palette: sand, gold & azulejo

A warm, sun-bleached base so the brand reads calm and effortless, with one bold note: azulejo cobalt, the Portuguese-tile blue that makes Maré recognisable. Cream breathes, gold warms, blue signs the name. Click any swatch to copy its hex.

Typography

An editorial serif used with restraint, over a clean, quiet sans. Distinctive, not the default Didone every other jewellery brand reaches for.

Headlines, wordmark, hero lines, editorial moments. Warm, characterful, slightly soft. Regular & Italic.

Body & UI · Hanken Grotesk (sans)

Maré is everyday gold jewellery inspired by the Portuguese coast, designed by Ariana and made to be worn through salt, sun, and water. Clean and quiet. It lets the serif and the gold do the talking.

05

The azulejo signature

This is the one element that makes Maré unmistakably Maré: a Portuguese tile motif in azulejo cobalt. It's your moat against blending into every other cream-and-gold brand.

Use it as accents plus one feature moment per page: a corner stripe, a restrained chip, a wash behind a section, and a single full tile band. Never wallpaper a whole page with it. The discipline is what keeps it feeling intentional and premium rather than busy. Spend your boldness here and keep everything around it quiet.

06

Voice & tone

Warm, personal, poetic, unhurried. Maré speaks as Ariana, not as a marketing department. Always signs off Com amor, Ariana x Maré.

We are

  • Warm & personal
  • Poetic, editorial
  • Coastal & sun-warmed
  • Personal point of view
  • Honest about what it is

We are not

  • Cold or corporate
  • Generic DTC / hype-y
  • "Saltwater girls" clever-copy
  • Fake-luxury "maison"
  • Plated pretending to be solid

Words

We use: tide, coast, gold, sun, salt, everyday, layered, golden hour, stay on, Maré.

We avoid: maison, atelier, heirloom, solid gold, fine jewellery, bling, sparkle, "saltwater girls."

Hero

Gold for the girl who never takes it off.

Product

The kind of necklace you put on and never want to take off. Wear it alone, or layer it.

Founder

So I made Maré myself. And now I make it for you.

Email

A little gold in your inbox, straight from the coast. Com amor, Ariana.

07

Imagery direction

Shot as if light were the subject: golden-hour, sun-faded, natural. This is the single biggest driver of desire for a young buyer, so it has to feel real and hers, never catalogue stock.

The mood

  • Gold on wet skin, after the swim
  • Rings against blue azulejo tiles
  • Beside oranges, shells, linen, iced drinks
  • The Portuguese coast, golden hour
  • Warm white balance, soft shadows

The framing

  • Lifestyle can be implied: a hand, wrist, collarbone
  • But keep real shots of Ariana. The founder's face is an asset, not a liability
  • Product: 4:5. Inspiration: 1:1
  • No studio gloss, no harsh light

Guardrails

The honest rules

These protect the brand legally and reputationally. They are not optional.

  • "Waterproof" only on stainless steel. Eco-brass pieces are "water-resistant". Never call brass waterproof. (Plated brass in water can tarnish and mark skin.)
  • "Inspired by the Portuguese coast." Never imply the pieces were made or designed on the Portuguese coast. Say what's true.
  • Always "plated." Never imply solid gold. Honesty is the whole pitch at this price.
  • Don't drift into fine-jewellery / "maison" language. That's a $400 brand Maré can't back.
  • Don't use fake strikethrough pricing or scarcity before the trust basics are clean.
  • Don't let the azulejo become wallpaper, or pile on badges. Restraint reads as expensive.
